Smilers is a New York City–based project space founded by Mark Beasley and Laura Tighe, located in a historic East Village building with a longstanding connection to the arts. With a curatorial focus on sculpture and Post-Internet practices, Smilers has quickly established itself as a thoughtful contributor to the city’s contemporary art landscape.
Its inaugural exhibition, Crust Shmup (2025), featured works by Oliver Payne, Cory Arcangel, and Theresa Duncan, setting the tone for its conceptual and media-savvy program. Most recently, Smilers presented Before the Clean Up, showcasing work by Nick Waplington and Lizzi Bougatsos. Though based in the U.S., Smilers exhibits a strong emphasis on artists from the United Kingdom, while also supporting U.S.-based practitioners.
