I never felt truly confident in my own skin, but being around women allowed me to express myself, experiment with makeup, and create a space where I felt safe.
What started as a personal love for artistry became my career—without ever knowing where it would take me. I began doing makeup 12 years ago, working with everyday women before moving on to supermodels, actresses, and some of the most famous musicians in the world. That journey gave me both a platform and the opportunity to launch Patrick Ta Beauty five years ago. It’s been a slow but steady climb, and as a high school dropout, this brand has already made my dreams come true in ways I never imagined.
Today, Patrick Ta Beauty has grown to more than 50 employees, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Working at MAC was an incredible stepping stone for me. It gave me the opportunity to work with a diverse range of skin tones, ages, and skin types, which was invaluable in shaping my skills as an artist. Learning to adapt and perfect my techniques across different complexions was one of the most important lessons I gained. Some of my fondest and most memorable moments in my career come from those days. As a makeup artist, you don’t often get the chance to work alongside your peers, but at MAC, I was constantly surrounded by talented artists whose unique approaches to beauty inspired me every day.
Vanity Fair wrote an article about me called “Selfie Made,” and at the time, I truly embodied that. I would capture my clients’ finished glam in the best lighting and share it on Instagram—back when the app was still new and revolutionizing the way we showcased beauty. This behind-the-scenes glimpse into my work was something fresh and rarely done before. Social media was an exciting, uncharted space, and it gave me the traction to connect with so many celebrities who were eager to experiment, have fun with glam, and be part of something new.
There is no such thing as a stupid question, and also trust your gut.
I wanted to create products that every woman could use—ones that felt approachable rather than intimidating. My goal was not just to launch products but to introduce them with a technique that truly teaches and empowers.
Many of my products feature both cream and powder formulas, offering versatility and the ability to build and transform your look effortlessly. I was intentional about spending time perfecting each product to ensure it delivers exceptional results. Today, we are proud to be one of the fastest-growing brands at Sephora.
As the brand continues to grow, I’m thrilled to embrace the business side of beauty. I love being deeply involved in product development, marketing, and every aspect of the brand. Being able to tell a story with each launch is something that truly excites and inspires me.
Every year, I write down my goals with intention. The moment I put them into words, I commit to making them a reality.
Write it down, make it happen.
Life in New York moves fast, and your makeup should keep up. Effortless and minimal by day, bold and playful by night—always ready for any occasion!
I usually take a red-eye and head straight to work or an event. If I can, I squeeze in a workout to reset.
I almost always stay at The Mercer—it’s my go-to. That block feels like home, with everything I need: the gym, the best shopping, great food, and work just around the corner.
To end the day right, dinner at my favorite spot in NYC—Domo Domo.
