Tell us about your new book, We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay.

It’s essays about past and present travels plus a few personal favorite places.  Like the Mercer Hotel.

Tell us something most people don’t know about you?

I’m shy.  Except when I’m not.

What career advice would you give your younger self?

Work hard.  Focus on what you’re doing, not on what anyone else is doing.

What or who has inspired you recently and why?

Seeing Ian McKellen onstage as Falstaff in The Player Kings in London.  Eighty-five and still at the top of his game.

What is your favorite restaurant in NYC? What is your go to order?

Balthazar.  The cheeseburger.  And it’s just two blocks from the hotel.  Always good.  Every time.

What is your proudest achievement outside your career?

My twenty-three year relationship with my husband Brad Goreski.

If you could choose one person to show you their New York City, who would it be and why?

Fran Lebowitz.  Because she’s Fran Lebowitz.

What are some of your under the radar recommendations for NYC visitors?

Go to Flushing, Queens for Chinese food. (Where I’m from!)  Take the Staten Island Ferry for the best views of lower Manhattan.

Go to the Cloisters.  Take a Citibike and ride on the paths along the Hudson.  Go to Cafe Gitane for lunch and get the Moroccan Couscous.

Go to Shakespeare in the Park.  Have been doing it since I’m eighteen.  None of these things are expensive and the last one is free!
