Laney Crowell

After years of working for massive brands within the beauty industry and launching her own clean beauty blog— The Moment, Laney Crowell noticed something major was missing from the market: clean makeup. Specifically clean makeup that’s well, cool. Skincare products that touted non-toxic ingredients were easy to find, but makeup made from safe and good-for-you ingredients that looked great on your vanity was seriously lacking. Laney decided to launch Saie Beauty as a way to make clean makeup easily available for all and to build it on a mission of real sustainability.

What made you decide to launch Saie Beauty?

I founded Saie because I wanted to create a beauty brand that felt personal, authentic, and truly aligned with my values – something I couldn’t find in the market at the time. My mission was to make beauty products that not only perform beautifully but also prioritize sustainability and clean ingredients. It’s about creating something people can trust, feel good about using every day, and know is making a positive impact on the planet.

Tell us about the sustainability mission for the brand?

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We’re committed to creating beauty products that not only perform beautifully but also respect the planet. We recently launched The Saie Way Docuseries where our team toured the country to discover what being an ‘Earth-minded’ brand really means. This Climate Week we will be announcing The Saie Climate Initiative, it will be a historic commitment for the beauty industry. More to come!

What would the title of your biography be?

I Have Some Learnings.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday in NYC?

Well, I always stay at The Mercer and I love to order coffee to my room and stay in bed as long as possible reading my book or catching up on work. Then I like to have breakfast in the lobby, after which I’ll slowly walk to the West Village without any real agenda. Maybe I’ll head to the West Side Highway or stop in a cute cafe. On my way back, I like to do a little shopping in Soho, followed by a great dinner.

Top 5 places to shop downtown?

Sephora for all things beauty (including Saie!), The Vintage Twin for great vintage finds, Celine for an investment piece, Bonpoint for something special for the kids, and McNally Jackson’s supply store (Goods for the Study Mulberry).
